The Internet provides many different types of tools to help genealogists trace their family trees. Family History research has classically been defined in four phases: the basic survey phase, the research phase, the evaluation phase and the publication phase.

The Goal of the research Phase is to seek out primary and secondary sources. Foreign research is no different. There are many foreign research sites today and they will continue to expand with each passing month. Computers can help genealogists find and even search original source material online.
