Artist Biography of Margie Kleinman

Margie, a native of Arizona, was born and lived in Mesa, Arizona most of her life. From early childhood she loved to draw, paint, do things with her hands and be outdoors in nature.

She received her BA and MA from Arizona State University. She received a scholarship and graduated with distinction. She taught art for 22 years; she was among 7 art teachers at Mesa High School, where they had a very strong art program. She taught basic design, computer graphics, drawing, painting, photography, spinning, weaving and natural dyes, and many other crafts. She helped to develop numerous student winners in state and national art competitions.

She loved all the experience and challenges of teaching, raising a family, serving in many capacities of leadership in her church, community, and politics, but not enough time was remaining to do as much art work as she desired. After retiring from 22 years of teaching, with 66 hours beyond her Masters degree, she and her husband went to China for a year to teach English at Qingdao University. She was allowed, as time permitted to sit in on and paint in some traditional art classes at the university. They were also able to travel throughout China taking many photographs and videos’. They have also traveled throughout Europe, Mexico, England, some in Canada and throughout the United States, including Hawaii. Of course all the travels were made with a camera in hand.

She illustrated a children’s’ book with 34 paintings and 54 photographs which was published, chaired art shows, judged art shows, served as an officer in an art league, had a one woman art show, and has displayed her art work in galleries in Globe, and Pine. She has won awards and ribbons for her artwork. There are many of her paintings in private collections, including portraits, still life's, and landscapes.

Margie enjoys painting in oils, watercolor, pastels, clay board, and has worked in other media also. Her paintings are very bold, but sensitive and spontaneous.

She is a mother of 5 children, and 21 grandchildren. Her home, family, church and art are her big joys in life, so she feels she has had a very rich life. There is a time and a season for all things, and this season is for advancing in her art production.
