When James's father, Wiley, died and the estate was settled, James lived in High, Texas. He is found: on the 1850 and 1860 Federal Census of Campbell County, Georgia as a child of Wiley; and on the 1870 census of Woodruff Co. Arkansas; and back in Campbell Co. Ga., in 1880.

Father was shot for leaving Civil War to see him when he was born after
askingfor leave and denied so he and his father in law went anyway, and
returned. Father in law not shot. His mother died shortly after and he
was raised by grandmother granny Robins.
I submitted work for him.(MK) According to Margaret Pate: mother called him Uncle Sime 1st cousin to Emory Childs. Emory Childs married Bertha Irene Carter 1904 (She was Mary and Sime 2nd daughter.
