Individual Note:
MATTIX FAMILY REUNION: The third reunion was changed to May since a relative from California, Mrs. Ruth Sorrels Hubble, daughter of Rose Ann (Bennett) Sorrels and granddaughter of Cinderella Mattix Bennett, daughter of Edward Sr. and Elizabeth (Bond) Mattix was visiting here. She gave us much information on her line of the family that left Arkansas in a wagon train of relatives and neighbors in 1859. Little did they realize that their part of the journey would be involved in the infamous Mountain Meadow Massacre, to the extent that they made up half of a larger train and left the others to follow a different route west, thus escaping the massacre. The outlaws who killed and robbed the travelers blamed it on Indians. They even dressed like Indians. Only a few children survived and were carried away by the robbers. Our Mattix-Bennet family that went west in 1859 and were so fortunate as to escape being killed and robbed finally settled near Sutter's Creek in San Joaquin Valley. More than 1000 descendants live there now.

BIRTH: From family records handwritten possibly by a Mrs. Bowles but not signed) and located in ERL C36. Cinderella born 1815 Ind.
