BIRTH: Information from Tyner Family Bible of son James McDonald Tyner as copied by Elizabeth R. Lamb. However, Benton Co., Tennessee was not formed until 1835 from Henry, Humphrey & Stewart Counties. Probably born in McNairy Co., Tenn. because parents there in 1830 census.

RESIDENCES: 1850, 1860, 1870 censuses have family in Benton Co., TN. About 1871 moved to Greene Co., AR, where residing in 1880 Census.

MILITARY: 7 Nov 1861 enlisted Benton Co., TN, in Confederate Army (Conf T-49 Tenn., Pvt. Co. I, 49th Reg.). John W. Tyner was also in Bailey's Consolidated Regiment of Infantry for the Confederacy, Company d, as a Private. Both records on Film Number M231 roll 44. He was Prisoner of War during the fighting-Feb. 16, 1862 at Ft. Donelson. He was sent to Camp Douglas, Ill., as a prisoner and later released at Vicksburg, MS.

BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery in Greene Co., Arkansas. Tonbstone as read by Elizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb in the 1960's states John W. Tyner/Born April 2, 1827/Died/Mar. 18, 1884. He is side by side with his wife Lucinda.

BIRTH-DEATH: James McDonald Tyner and Sarah Ann (Cupp) Tyner Family Bible; 1861-1971; Bible publ 1870, New York, New York, USA: in possession of Maggie Mae Potter, Jonesboro, AR on June 6, 1977; NOTE: Viewed and compiled on June 6, 1977 in Jonesboro, AR, by ELizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb, Greenwood, MS; her record in possession of Judith Rittenhouse, 2434 E. Contessa St., Mesa, AZ 85213 on July 31, 1996. (Bible later in possession of Viva Demetra Tyner Nutt, Kennett, MO, until her death in 1989.) NOTE: The entry by J. M. Tyner gives J. W. Tyner with only "Lucindy Tyner" on the back of a page in the Bible. Someone else entered J. W. Tyner without Lucindy on a loose page along with four other Tyners.

RESIDENCES: Descendants of the Barnes family living in Holladay, Benton Co., Tennessee, in the late 1970's said that the Barneses moved back and forth between Stewart and Benton Counties, Tennessee, to McNairy County, Tennessee and Tishomingo County, Mississippi. The Tyners moved with them. Four or five children were located in the 1860 Census of Benton Co., Tennessee, who apparently died of Typhoid Fever during the move to Arkansas. They probably died in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Answers to a Questionnaire from Judith Lamb LaForge to Rosamond Tyner Sims in 1977 stated that the family got Typhoid Fever during the move to Arkansas and one daughter and three sons died.

CENSUSES: Family appears in 1850, 1860, 1870, & 1880 censuses. Need to record which censuses and family members.

From: Judith Rittenhouse [mailto:jrittenhouse@cox.net] Sent: Thursday, November 18, 2004 6:47 PM To: TYNER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: John Wiley Tyner in the Civil War My second great grandfather, John Wiley Tyner, served during the Civil War for the South. There is a book all about his unit or regiment titled "Cry Havoc: A History of the 49th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 1861-1865" by C. Wallace Cross. During the Civil War, some soldiers thought that after they took the oath of loyalty to the United States and got to be a prisoner exchange that they could go home. The South had other ideas and perhaps that is the reason J. W. Tyner was listed as a deserter. The soldiers also thought if they enlisted for a period of time that they could go home when that time was up. He signed up for a year on 7 Nov 1861. By the time he got through with being a Prisoner of War at Camp Douglas, John Wiley probably figured he could go home. I love him whatever happened. Judith Lamb Rittenhouse Carpenter
