1900 census for Waitsburg, Walla Walla, Washington, has David living with parents and sister Tilly's family. He was born in Iowa. He was a teamster and had been unemployed for three months. He could read, write and speak English, and was 30 years old.

Also in possession of Judith Rittenhouse in Elizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb's genealogy files are letters; documents, such as birth, death, marriage certificates; will; army papers; articles and obituaries for Frank Austin Rittenhouse and his family.
BIOGRAPHY: This three-page biography located in ERL B143 Doc 8 includes the following information: F. A. Rittenhouse, senior member of the law firm of Rittenhouse, Webster, Hanson & Rittenhouse, was born in Aurora, Nebraska, January 8, 1885. He graduated from high school in McCook, Nebraska, and received his law degree from the University of Missouri in 1908, and was admitted to practice law in Oklahoma in 1908...On June 22, 1910, at Manti, Colorado, Mr. Rittenhouse married Miss Alma Hocking, daughter of S. A. Hocking and Sarah Hocking...two children - Austin J. Rittenhouse and Elizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb.

Frank Austin Rittenhouse baptized 20 Aug 1968 in the Arizona Temple. Judith Lamb LaForge submitted the baptismal ordinance and was notified it was completed on the 12th of August 1968 in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

CARD: Frank Austin Rittenhouse, January 8, 1885 to January 27, 1950. The Company's General Counsel, Frank Austin Rittenhouse, died in Wesley Hospital, Oklahoma City, on January 27. He was a director of Mid-Continent Life, and had been its legal adviser for more than 25 years. A Shriner, a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, a 33rd-degree Mason since 1921, he had received, during the last forty years, almost every honor that his appreciative Masonic brothers could bestow upon him. He was an outstanding attorney, a rugged Oklahoman, and a true friend. Card located in daughter Alma Elizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb's files, Drawer B-127.
NEWS ARTICLE: This is undated and does not give name of newspaper. "THE HONOR WAS HIS--ANYWAY." To Atty. Austin Rittenhouse was the honor of being, just for a short time, a judge of the supreme court commission of the state of Oklahoma. The resignation of Judge Robertson made a vacancy in the commission and Atty. Rittenhouse of Chandler was appointed and confirmed by Chief Justice Kane. It was then discovered, by Atty. Rittenhouse himself, that he lacked eleven months of having attained the minimum age limit, hence he was forced to relinquish the position. Just the same, he is to be congratulated for having the honor conferred upon him. To date the position remains unfilled." (Note: His brother, George Brown Rittenhouse, was next selected to the position which he began Feb. 1, 1914.) Newspapers published back then were The Oklahoma Times, The Daily Oklahoman, and The Chandler Tribune.

CHAIR: As Judith remembers his comfortable chair in the living room and as David Ellison figured out from the description: Thonet Bentwood & Other Furniture: 1904 Illus. Catalog had a chair just like it. Gebruder Thonet, Fauteuil, Sitz 53x49cm geflochten (normal) p. 123. Also rocker like the chair. Factories in Hostein, Moravia, Hungary, Russia, Frankenberg in Germany (Hessen-Cassel).

1910 CENSUS: Says that Austin Rittenhouse is 26 years old, single, born in Nebraska, lawyer and living in Chandler Ward 2, Lincoln, Oklahoma with his mother Louise and brother Robert.
