Hi Tammy,
James McDonald Tyner was my great grandfather. He was born 15 Nov 1861 in Camden, Benton Co., Tennessee. He married 14 May 1882 to Sarah Ann Cupp in Walcott, Greene, Arkansas. He died 16 Aug 1955 in Jonesboro, Craighead, Arkansas.
James McDonald Tyner's father was John Wiley Tyner who was born 2 Apr 1827 maybe in Benton Co., Tenn. (I think it wasn't a county yet). He married Lucinda Barnes on 8 Dec 1847 in Benton Co., Tenn. He died 18 Mar 1884 in Fairview, Arkansas.
John Wiley Tyner's father was William H. Tyner, Sr., born 1790/1800. In the 1830 Census he was in McNairy Co., Tenn. In the 1840 Census he was in Tishomigo Co., Mississippi. We do not know whom he married and believe he died before 1850 since he cannot be located in any census at that time.
This as far back as I can prove.
Judith

Hi,
My grandmother Nora Lee Tyner Lamb was almost blind in her old age though her father James "Jim" McDonald Tyner could see very well. There was a Tyner sister of Jim who was blind at a very early age though I think it happened from a childhood disease. At any rate, first cousins of my father had to take their blind aunt to the out house when she needed to go. They would often take her a very long way, foolish kids that they were. Both of these two cousins ended up legally blind in their 80's. My father wore very thick glasses when he died at 66 years of age. My brother and sister both had to wear glasses while growing up; I didn't have to wear glasses until I was 41 years old. Judith Rittenhouse Carpenter

I'm going to try this from another angle.
We can all agree that old age can bring on blindness in some folks. My ancestor Lewis Taylor Tiner b. 1840's, who's father was William T Tyner, of Early/Baker Co, GA was blind in his old age (he lived to 100 yrs old). It struck me odd when I corresponded with a descendant of his brother (Ben I believe) and they stated he was also blind at an older age. My mother has high readings on her "puff" tests and they watch her for glaucoma. I also have high readings and am also being watched. Are there any other Tyner ancestors that you know were blind or have pictures where their eyes are blurry (pupels not clear) showing blindness.
I think this is a hereditary trait. Maybe this can link us up with another branch. Tammy Owen Bastrop Website coordinator www.rootsweb.com/~txbastro/bastrop.htm www.mymall.freeservers.com
