Text: Dennis was born 14 Oct 1878 in Bone Gap, Edwards, Illinois. His parents were Daniel Hocking and Harriett M. Gould. On 23 Nov 1902 he married Essie Myrtle Reid. She was born in Mar 1876 (cannot read date) and was of West Village Church, Edwards, Illinois. She died 9 Jan 1960 in Olney, Richland, Ill. She was buried in West Village Church Cemetery. Her parents were Francis Reid and Maretta Bunting. They had five children, all of whom were born in Bone Gap, Edwards, Illinois, whose temple work was not recorded on this sheet--probably because they were still alive. (1) Ashley Reid Hocking born 15 Aug 1903 and he married Mary Olive Hoover on 6 Jun 1928. (2) Kenneth Daniel Hocking was born 1 May 1906 and married Iva L. Cunningham on 25 Dec 1927. (3) Burl Atlee Hocking was born 4 Jan 1909 and married Hyla Ward on 30 Jun 1936. (4) Dennis Atwood Hocking was born 9 Jan 1911 and married Rachel Lewis on 27 Jun 1939. (5) Harriett Virginia Hocking was born 15 Apr 1919 and married Estes Wayne Chamblin on 25 Dec 1944.

General Source: S637Text: Final rates (sic) for Dennis A. Hocking, 90, were held Monday afternoon from the Ingraham Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles D. Thomas officiating.
Mr. Hocking died Friday at his home west of Bone Gap. His son, Kenneth, found the body about 3 p.m., after he apparently had been dead several hours. A small gash on his head was believed to have been caused by a fall. He had been under treatment for a heart condition for the past two years.
Surviving are four sons, Kenneth of Albion, Bury of Robinson, Atwood of Onarga and Ashlie of London, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. E. W. (Harriet) Chamberlin of Danville; 13 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Burnice Martin of Tacoma, Wash.
Mr. Hocking was a retired farmer. He was a charter member of the Edwards County Farm Bureau, which will observe its 50th anniversary this fall.
Born October 14, 1878 in Edwards County, he was the son of Daniel and Harriott Gould Hocking.
Interment was at West Village Cemetery.
