Text:   'Our Mother' Departed this life at her home in Washington, Missouri, Friday morning, June 28th, 1895, of paralysis, Mrs. Sue J. Rittenhouse, aged 53 years, 5 months and 18 days. Her remains were laid to rest in the Jonesburg, Mo., Cemetery Sunday afternoon, June 30th, 1895. -- Our mother was born in Harrison county, Ohio, January 10th, 1842, was the youngest daughter of Ivan and Belinda Baker, and resided there until she grew to womanhood. She was married to Albert Paul Rittenhouse, of the same county, September 1st, 1864, and to her were born three children, one only surviving her. She had been a member of the M. E. Church from early childhood and remained true to her church vows till death removed her from the church militant to the church triumphant, there to join her loved ones gone before.
Our mother was educated at Beaver Seminary, in Pennsylvania, and has, since 1880 been engaged in editorial work, having for twelve years prior to coming to Washington conducted the Jonesburg, Mo., Journal. She had for twenty-seven years been an invalid, but for a number of weeks before her death had been in better health and spirits than usual, with great hope of a continued improvement in general health, but such was not to be. She suffered a partial paralytic stroke of the left side Sunday evening, June 23rd, 1895, at 5:30 o'clock, and Tuesday morning June 25th, 1895, at 6 o'clock suffered a paralytic stroke of the right side, after which she never spoke, but remained conscious until within a few hours of her death...She was a loving mother, a good friend, a true and noble woman, and a sincere christian (sic). We left Sunday morning for Jonesburg, Mo., with her earthly remains and laid them to rest, after a service of prayer and song by the pastor of the church at that place to which she had long been a member, and her dear friends who had gathered together to pay their last tribute of love and friendship, beside her daughter Fannie, who had long since been called away.

Text:   "Fannie Welles Rittenhouse. Beloved daughter of Albert Paul Rittenhouse and Sue J. Rittenhouse, - born March 28th A.D. 1868 - Departed this Life. Monday morning, October 15th A.D. 1883...Daughter and sister she was to us, and we have lost her here In the supremem hour of our trial when we knew that no human hand could stay the flight of her spirit, it seemed as if the end of the world had come to use three, - father, mother, and brother - and we wished that Life's Dream was over for us...her little measure of earthly life was not unhappy. With a gladness that is unspeakable, we remember many evidences of this, - only a few days before the fateful fever fastened upon her, she said to her mother, "Dear Mother, I think I have always had such good times, - I have not had much trouble in all my life, have I?"...There was for her, bounding health and vigor, all the years till death's approach...She saw much of beauty, and was gladsome with song. She had a wealth of love, for all who knew her, loved her the exquisite tenderness of her affectionate nature, and the lofty nobility of her character, made her a favorite, and endeared her to all her associates. we loved her so well. She was so beautiful, so grand, and good, and true. We were and are proud of her..." Signed by A. P. Rittenhouse, Sue J. Rittenhouse, Harry S. Rittenhouse.
