Text: Robert Sturgeon: I came to U.S. with William Penn. He located in Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania, and later went to Moreland, now Fayette County. He owned a tract of land 4 miles north west of Beesontown, now Uniontown. He was a surveyor and plotted most of the land in county of Westmoreland which now comprises counties of Fayette, Washington, and Green. He lost his life in a surveying expedition. Pennsylvania Archives, 2nd Series, Vol 10, P. 211 shows Robert Sturgeon (II), private to Captain Phillip Albright's Company under Col. Samuel Mills in camp near King's Bridge, September 1, 1776. The Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment. All of this information was approved and accepted by the following organizations for membership by Stella B. Haines (now deceased): Stella B. Haines of Augusta, Kansas, daughter of Mary Ellen Brown Haines. D.A.R. # 279938 D.A.C. National # 7101( daughter of American Colonists) War of 1812, #14742. She said Mary Ellen Brown Haines was a sister to my grandmother Louise Jane Brown Rittenhouse. Elizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb, 8 Aug 1966. All of this was gotten from court proceedings stating heirs of David D. Sturgeon (David Dutton b. 20 May 1836) who died intestate on 8/6/1917 in Wayne County, Iowa. These are his brothers and sisters and their children. Chancey Court, Benton County, Iowa. (Child # 11 named John died young) John R. born 1829.
