Text:    Johann Jakob Meisenheimer, the earliest known ancestor of the North Carolina and Illinois branches of the family evidently was born in Germany and came to the Colony of Pennsylvania in the early 1740's.
Records of Augustus Lutheran Church in Trappe, Pennsylvania, reveal the fact that on November 16, 1746 Johann Jakob Meisenheimer married Margararetha Reiter(in). There are also recorded there the birth and baptism of their first child in 1747, and that of their youngest son, Abraham, in 1761. The interval of 14 years contains no other record of the family, but several of theif children were baptised at New Hanover Church. Between 1766 and March 29, 1769, they were living in Colebrookdale Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania where the tax returns show him to have been a fairly affluent farmer.
Before August 17, 1775, the family had removed to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and settled on Adams Creek. This portion of Mecklenburg County in 1792 became Cabarrus County, where the family generally lived ever since.
