Text:   Henry Putnam, Adams County, Illinois, 1840 Census. He was first here in 1830. He is not in the index, but he is right here in Ellington. Henry is number 2334 in Eben's scheme of things. He was born in Marietta, Ohio, June 10, 1800, two years after his Father Allen landed there with his cousin General Rufus Putnam of Massachusetts. Henry married Martha MacDonald back in Ohio and came out here with his brother George after their father died in 1807. Martha has recently died (June 30, 1839) so Henry is here with his only son Rufus William Putnam. Henry himself died here on September 20, 1844. Young Rufus will be here alone and boarding in 1850. This line is Henry>Allen>Henry>Henry>Eleazer>John>John.
