Text:    John Lamb, Jr. was born in 1816 in Williamson County, Tennessee. He was the son of John Lamb, Sr. and Cloey who settled in Lauderdale County, Alabama about 1821. John Lamb, Jr. married on November 1, 1898 in Waterloo, Lauderdale County, Alabama to Ann Houston, born 1816 in Newberry County, South Carolina, who is the daughter of Ross Houston, Sr. and Mary Ann. In 1851, John Lamb, Jr. and several of his sibilings moved their families to Greene County, Arkansas: sister-in-law, Rhonda Hardin Lamb, widow of Morgan Lamb; James Lamb and wife Rebecca Houston; Mary Lamb who later married John Wilson Willcockson/Wilcoxson; brother-in-law, Ruben Adams and wife Sarah Lamb; and possibly others.
John and Ann Houston Lamb had five children, all born in Lauderdale County, Alabama: James Houston Lamb bron August 10, 1839; Mary Ann Lamb born April 25, 1842; John Jones Lamb born December 10, 1843; David L. Lamb born December 25, 1846 who married Mary Clements; and Robert Marshall Lamb born 1848 who married Clarinda Elizabeth Dacus, daughter of Pascal L. Dacus and Amanda A. O'Dell. Ann Houston Lamb died in Greene County, Arkansas about 1871 and was buried in the Lamb Cemetery. Her grave is not marked as her tombstone was destroyed.
John Lamb, Jr. remarried between 1872 and 1873 in Greene County, Arkansas to Rebecca Caedwell, the widow of Henry Cook, Jr. They had Three Daughters as follows: Della Lamb born about 1873; Susan Lamb born December 10, 1874; and Ruth Ann Lamb born about 1876. Rebecca Cardwell (Cook) Lamb died about 1876 shortly after the birth of Ruth. John then married a third time to Elizabeth A. Travis. on December 28, 1878, in Craighead County, Arkansas, there are no children from this third marriage. John Lamb, Jr. owned a farm between Finch and Lorado where he lived and worked for over 30 years until his death in January of 1885. He was buried in the Lamb Cemetery on the family farm but his tombstone was destroyed. When John died, he left three minors: Della, Susan, and Ruth Lamb. Since his widow, Elizabeth, was not the mother of his children it is understandable that she might not have wanted to be responsible for them. David Lamb, Jr., son of John Lamb, Jr. and half brother to these little girls, was appointed their gruardian on February 4, 1885. All three young daughters lived to adulthood, married, and left descendants in Greene County, Arkansas. Of the five children of John and Ann Houston Lamb, James Houston Lamb and John Jones Lamb moved their families to Coos County, Oregon while Mary Ann Lamb, wife of William Thomas Clements, Davis L. Lamb, and Robert Marshall Lamb remained in Greene County, Arkansas. May of thier descendents still live in Greene County, Arkansas today.
The lamb Cemetery is located on a reserved one acre plot in the NW/4 NE/4 of Section 30-16N-4E, in Greene County, Arkansas, known as the old Ellis Farm which was later sold to Paul Arnold. The forty acres of land where the cemetery is located was originally purchased by John Lamb (jr.) as a United States Patent dated March 1, 1856. During John's lifetime he conveyed this same tract of land to his brother, James Lamb.
