. . . On page 2 of my letter to Mr. O. P. Sisler (I'm not certain, but I believe he is now deceased) you will see that my first source as to the maiden name of Amanda Dacus was her grandson, the late Robert "Bob" Lamb of Walcott. Also on page 2 is my second source - a letter from J. U. Dacus of Laverne, Calif. (He uses the middle initial of "U" for his name, Euphrates). Mr. Dacus is now in a rest home in Oregon. His son is Thomas E. Dacus, the brother-in-law of Glacille Jenkins.
I believe both men would really know, especially Bob Lamb. Clarinda Dacus Lamb, a daughter of Paschal & Amanda, lost her husband, Robert Marshall Lamb, in an accident at the gin where he worked. He was caught in the machinery and was beheaded. Clarinda was pregnant at the time of his death and had her baby, Robert Marshall Lamb, Jr. - Uncle Bob Lamb - a few months after her husband died. She later married a Winn and had children by him. Uncle Bob was raised by his grandparents Paschal and Amanda Dacus. He was age 14 when both grandparents died. Therefore, I feel his information as to his grandmother's maiden name of O'Dell is correct.
J. U. Dacus is also a grandson of Paschal & Amanda and I believe his information is correct as to O'Dell being Amanda's maiden name.
My third source is the information I copied from the late Mrs. Grace Clements Harrill of Oklahoma City. She was born and raised in Walcott. She and her husband moved to Oklahoma City and were friends of my parents. I grew up in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Harrill is on the Lamb Line and also helped me with that. I copied her information from her home. She was a descendant of John Newberry & his wife Nancy DACUS. She was the first one to tell me that the Dacus and Newberry Families lived in Cherokee Co., Ala before they came to Greene Co., Ark. in 1852. Here is what I copied from her records: (handwritten here is "She said Amanda's maiden name was O'Dell.")
"John Newberry married Nancy Dacus. Their son, James Newberry, born in 1843, married Mary Morgan. Two of the Morgan girls married Newberry boys from Cherokee Co., Ala. There were Mary, Martha, Maggie, Ellen, another girl and Joe.
"John Newberry was born 1820 N.C., Nancy, his wife, was born 1818 in S.C. Their children as follows: James Newberry, born in Ala. in 1843; Martha Newberry, born in Ala. in 1845; William Newberry, born in Ala. in 1850; John Newberry, born in Ala. in 1853; Lawrence L. Newberry, born in Miss. in 1855; and Thomas Newberry, born in Ark. in 1857.
Page 3: . . . I still ahve not found our Paschal & Amanda (Odell) Dacus (in 1850 census). . . it might be that you could find Paschal & Amanda Dacus in Floyd Co., GA. in 1850 since he (Mr. Sisler) said Amanda's brother William Calvin O'Dell was born in Rome, Ga. Amanda was probably also born there. . .

Text: Dear Mr. Russell: . . . I am descended from a John Lamb (Sr.) and his wife Cloey_____ who resided in Lauderdale Co., AL. They were listed in the 1840 Census of Lauderdale Co., AL., although I believe they were in Lauderdale Co. by the 1830's. They were the parents of two known children: 1. John Lamb, Jr. b. ca. 1816 Tn., married 1 Nov 1838 at Waterloo, Lauderdale Co., Al. to Ann Houston b. ca. 1816 S.C.; 2. James Lamb b. 1821 Tn., married 10 Jan 1841 Lauderdale Co., Al., to Rebecca Houston b. 1818 Tn. (Two Lamb brothers married two Houston sisters.) John Lamb Sr. and wife Cloey sold their land in Lauderdale Co. on 3 Jan 1848. The two sons, John, Jr. and James Lamb along with their wives, Ann and Rebecca, sold their land in Lauderdale Co., 31 Oct. 1850. They do not appear on the 1850 Census of Lauderdale Co., Al. John Jr. and James Lamb moved their families to Greene Co, Arkansas, and arrived there in 1851. Thus they did not appear on the 1850 Census of Greene Co., Ar. as they were in route to Arkansas during the Census.
In addition to the above known information, John, Jr. and James Lamb are thought to have had a brother Morgan Lamb who was listed in the 1830 & 1840 Censuses of Lauderdale Co., Al. He was married to a Rhoda (Hardin) Lamb at the time of his death (ca. 1850 Lauderdale Co., Al.). Morgan Lamb's widow, Rhoda Lamb, bought land from a Thomas Lamb and wife, Margret, on 31 Oct 1850. This is the same date that John, Jr. and James Lamb sold their land in Lauderdale Co., Al. So I suspect that Thomas Lamb was also a brother to them. Rhoda Lamb stayed behind in Al. to settle up the affairs of her deceased husband but on 18 Nov 1852, she sold her land in Lauderdale Co., Al. to Isaac Milner. In 1854 Rhoda Lamb filed a transcript prepared in Greene Co., Ar. with the court of Lauderdale Co., Al. asking permission to remove the shares for her minor children from the Morgan Lamb Estate to Greene Co., Ar. She apparently joined her brothers in law and families in Greene Co., Ar. and was listed in the 1860 Census of Greene Co., Ar. living near them. . .
This was a most successful trip (to Lauderdale Co., Alabama) in that I was able to find out the first name of my John Lamb, Sr.'s wife, CLOEY. Also up until this time I had been led to believe that my John Lamb, Sr. was the same person as a John P. Lamb on the 1830 Census of Lauderdale Co., Al. who married an Adeline Turbeville in 1836. After reading through all the land records I now have this cleared up at last. There were apparently 4 different John Lambs in Lauderdale Co., Al. around the 1830-1840 time period. According to the deeds I found: 1) 28 Feb 1839 a John Lamb bought land from Reason Keeton and wife and settled in the area near the Haddock Community. (This John Lamb appears to be a brother to Archibald Lamb, Jr. and the son of Archibald Lamb, Sr. of Giles Co., Tn.); 2) In 1836-1838 John P. Lamb as a resident of Lauderdale Co., Al., was buying land in the area near Rogersville on the Elk River. Then on a deed dated 8 Apr 1848 this same John P. Lamb is selling the last of his land in Lauderdale Co, but states that he is a resident of Franklin Co., Al. at that time; 3) John Lamb, Sr. and wife Cloey who owned land between the communities of Waterloo and Wright; 4) John Lamb, Jr. and wife Ann Houston, who owned land adjoining the father, John Lamb, Sr. and brothers: James, Morgan, and Thomas Lamb, between Waterloo and Wright, Al.
I di not know where my John Lamb, Sr. lived prior to Lauderdale Co., Al. Different sources refer to N.C., S.C., and then Tenn.?? It could be that all of the John Lambs in Lauderdlae Co. were related to each other somehow and then again they may not be related at all except for the father and son, John Lamb, Sr. and Jr. of near Waterloo. . .
