Text: This is just a quick outline of what I have for Ross Houston, Sr. Notice that I use "Sr." for our Ross. In the Lauderdale Co., AL records, he is either listed as Ross or Ross, Sr. When you see a "Ross, Jr." listed, it is for Ross Houston who was the son of David Houston. ANd sometimes this Ross Jr. is listed only as Ross, so I have to keep in mind the date of the document to help determine if "Ross" is for the Sr. or the Jr. Here, the Sr. and Jr. are used to denote age difference and not a relationship of father and son. So our Ross Houston, Sr. was an uncle to Ross Houston, Jr.)
Ross Houston, Sr. b. 1770-1780 Newberry Co, SC: d. before July 1848 (date of Appraise Bill for Ross Houston, Sr.'s Estate) Lauderdale Co., AL.
1790 Census Newberry Co., SC - he was still living at home with his parents and had not married yet.
1800 Census Newberry Co., SC - he was still living at home with his parents and had not married yet.
He married Mary Ann (McCrackin) in Newberry Co., SC after the 1800 Census.
1816 Newberry Co., SC - Ross Houston made an oath on a deed in 1816 that his brother, Samuel Houston had signed in 1804 before his death. So we know that our Ross Houston (Sr.) was still living in Newberry Co., SC when his daughter, Ann (Anny) was born in 1816.
NOTE FROM Jan Ashford: Somehow, I missed this deed...I asssume that he was in Williamson Co. Tn. since that is where David was about that time and Samuel had died there.
1830-Ross Houston (Sr.) and family were living in Madison Co., AL for the 1830 Census.
1840 - Ross Houston (Sr.) and family were living in Lauderdale Co., AL for the 1840 Census.
1848 - July 1848 is the date of the first Estate record (Appraise Bill) that I have found for him. His will was being probated in Lauderdale Co., AL in Dec. 1850, and this is the date and record that most researchers use because it is documented/transcribed in one of Gandrud's books.

Note: Gives parents of Nicholas as Reginald Odell and Elizabeth Boggs. Judith Rittenhouse has no proof for the parents of Nicholas so these people have not been entered on individual screens as of Feb. 10, 2007. Notice big gap of 12 years between Jane and Martha's births. Children #10 & #11 are born even later and should be Nicholas' children, not Reginald's.
If he married Elizabeth Williams born 1775, she would have been 13 years older than him. If she were the second wife, she would have begun having children after the age of 62 years.
