Text: George Michels (II), son of George and Susanna Michels, was born 24 February 1788 at Bangor, Maine. (See James J. Michels history). He was married 3 November 1813 to Mary Getchell. She was born 30 September 1792 in Maine. In the year 1818 they left Maine for Illinois as told in the James J. Michels history. Their children were: Nancy, born 30 April 1815, married William Melrose; Lucy, born 8 September 1816, married Henry Naylor; George (III), born 18 May 1818, married Margaret Spencer; Mary, born 4 March 1820, married Richard Naylor; William, born 6 October 1821, married Louisa Lough; Cyrena, born 18 January 1823, married David Lambert; Christopher, born 10 July 1825, married Mary Ann Huffman, Ezra, born 6 June 1827, married Rebecca Huffman; Reuben, born 3 December 1829, married Mary Knodell; and Sarah, born 23 March 1832, married Samuel Melrose. Nancy and Lucy were born in Maine. George (III) was born at Shawneetown (sic), Gallatin County, Illinois (sic) enroute (sic) to Edwards County. The other seven children were born in Edwards County. George and Mary settled on the Albion-Grayville Trail about one mile southeast of Albion.
George Michels (II) died 6 December 1866. His widow, Mary, was buried in the Lambert Family Cemetery in Edwards County.
