Thompson's Creek was named in his honor as he first settled on it and was the first school teacher in the vicinity. He entered the land and later went to Batesfield and secured a deed form the government. His first wife, Jane Mattix died soon after the birth of Edwrd after they came to Arkansas. Text: I believe that the above statement that Lawrence Thompson came to Craighead Co. Arkansas in 1850 is wrong. The statement that his wife died after the birth of Edward after they came to Arkansas would show that they were in Arkansas in 1836, when Edward was born. Perhaps Lawrence Thompson came to Craighoead Co. in 1850 from Greene Co. Arkansas and not from Indiana. See Goodseed's account on opposite page 36. ERL.

Text: Lawrence [Tompkins. sic] Thompson came from Kentucky to Arkansas about 1833, and settled on the east side of Crowley's Ridge, and was one of some six families that were among the first settelers. Here he resided until his death, being an active participant in the development of the county.[ This information was evidently given by his grandson, L.J. Dennis since the article in Goodseed's was written about L.J. Dennis ERL]

Page 2 of "Lawrence Thompson":
During the time Lawrence (Thompson) was holding office his wife died (Dec. 23, 1836) but before she died four children were born to this union (Jane Mattix). Their first child was a girl, Elenor, born Nov. 9, 1825. She married Lawrence Dennis. Born to this union was Laura Dennis and Bob Dennis. This brance of the family can be traced through the descendents of the Dennises. It is not known where Elenor was born or where or when she died but a daughter of (page 3) Larence Thompson married Lawrence Dennis and that their son married Joe A. Thompson's mother's older sister (Mary Ann Newsom).
