Text:    F. A. Rittenhouse, senior member of the law firm of Rittenhouse, Webster, Hanson & Rittenhouse, was born in Aurora, Nebraska, January 8, 1885. He graduated from high school in McCook, Nebraska, and received his law degree from the University of Missouri in 1908, and was admitted to practice law in Oklahoma in 1908. He is a Knight Templar, a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the I.O.O.F. In 1916, he was a member of the Executive Council of the State Bar Association.
On June 22, 1910, at Manti, Colorado, Mr. Rittenhouse married Miss Alma Hocking, daughter of S. A. Hocking and Sarah Hocking. To this union two children were born. Austin J. Ritenhouse, single, is associated with the present law firm. He graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City, was granted the degree of A.B. from the University of Oklahoma, and the degree of L.L.B. from Washington & Lee. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was admitted to practice law in Oklahoma in 1939. He is a 32 degree Mason. Elizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, attended Sophia Newcomb College in New Orleans, and is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Elizabeth married Dr. Jones Weldon Lamb of Paragould, Arkansas. To this union a daughter, Judith, was born June 12, 1940; a son, Jones Weldon "Jon" Jr., was born January 3, 1943, and a daughter, Susan Rittenhouse was born on February 8, 1948.
His father, A. J. Rittenhouse, moved to Chandler, Oklahoma, in 1897, and until his death in 1909, was regarded as one of the leading and influential men of the State. He was born in Jefferson Co., Ohio, February 1, 1850. He was admitted to practice law in Ohio, but later moved to Centerville, Iowa. At Seymour, Iowa, he married Louise Jane Brown. A. J. Rittenhouse died at Hot Springs, Arkansas, April 24, 1909. During his residence in Oklahoma, he identified himself closely with affairs where he could be influential and helpful outside of his own profession. He served as a member of the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma. He was an Odd Fellow, and was a man of many social qualities as well as high professional attainments. There were born to Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Rittenmhouse the following children: Olive R., who is a member of the law firm of Rittenhouse, Webster, Hanson & Rittenhouse; George B., now deceased, former member of the Supreme Court Commission; May M., now deceased; F.A., and Robert R.
Robert R. Rittenhouse, the youngest of the family, was born in McCook, Nebraska, in 1896, received the degree of L.L.B. from Cumberland University at Lebanon, Tennessee, and was admitted to practice law in Oklahoma the same year. He is conducting a private law practice in Oklahoma City, specializing in criminal law. He married Joe (sic) Catherine Richie of Okemah, Oklahoma.
The name of Rittenhouse has long figured most prominently in connection with the legal history of Oklahoma, and F. A. Rittenhouse is today upholding the high standard of professional work associated with the name of his father and of his older brother.
The law firm of Rittenhouse & Rittenhouse was established at Chandler by A. J. Rittenhouse and George B. Rittenhouse, F. A. becoming a member in 1908. In 1913, George B. Rittenhouse was appointed a member of the Supreme Court Commission, and that firm was dissolved. In 1916, George B. resigned from the Supreme Court Commission to take up fire insurance litigation, and in 1921, the firm of Rittenhouse & Rittenhouse was reorganized at Oklahoma City, and continued until the death of George B. Rittenhouse in 1925. The present firm of Rittenhouse, Webster, Hanson & Rittenhouse is the successor to that firm.
        F. A. Rittenhouse has a broad and intimate knowledge of the law, with ability to actively apply its principles, and his high ideals of professional service are recognized by all.

Note:   Margaret May Rittenhouse Ellison, wife of Big Don Ellison, was the only known first cousin of Judith's mother Elizabeth Rittenhouse Lamb. F. A. Rittenhouse told his daughter Elizabeth that perhaps his grandchildren would profit from the mineral leases he owned. Actually Elizabeth fared very well until the "wind fall profit tax" was instituted. It was passed so that royalty owners who had been profiting from a well for a long time would no longer make royalties. So lots of wells were closed because only new wells could pay the royalty owners.
Text:   ...I finally asked Dad about Robert "Bob" Rittenhouse. He remembered absolutely nothing, and in fact, was surprised that Robert had even existed. He did remember F. A. "Uncle Austin," Alma, and Elizabeth, and of course, Aunt Olive. He remembered his impression that F. A. had always thought Margaret May "babied" him (George). He had once gotten arrested and taken to the police station for fighting in front of the Mayflower Theater. Big Don was in Okinawa at the time, so F. A. was called to help. Margaret May described the events and F.A.'s immediate question was "Did he win?" F. A. was able to make some phone calls and have the whole matter go away without appearing in court or anything.
Dad also remembered that Margaret May had a special fondness for the F. A. Rittenhouses, and his family would ALWAYS go over to the F. A. Rittenhouses's for dinner prior to leaving for a vacation in New Mexico. He had no recollection of the upstairs dining room of their house, but recalled the wide front steps and beveled glass at the front door. He always thought of them as well-to-do, living "down in the wealthy part of Oklahoma City" and "driving that Cadillac". He said something about F. A. taking mineral leases during the depression in payment for legal services rather than cash, and having "drilled more dry wells than anyone else in the state of Oklahoma."
He remembered when he and some high-school friends helped F. A. and Olive move their law offices in 1948 (?). He was struck with how small Olive's private office was and how large their law library was. He had to carry the barrister bookcases that stacked. This was basically his last memory of them...he was so absorbed in college, the Navy and early married life until after Olive had died.
He didn't think he knew Webster, but did know Hansen, and thought he would have been young enough to keep the law practice going and inherit the office. Do we know anything about Hansen? Would Hansen be the right age to interest your mother Elizabeth? Dad asked if any of us had contacted the Stuarts regarding this matter of adoption and so forth. I suppose Hansen might even still be alive...and might know something...
I think further questioning of Dad and his thinking about it a little more might cause more memories to surface, but the amazing thing was the TOTAL lack of any memory of Robert. He claimed his father, Big Don, was absolutely quiet about these sorts of personal affairs of others, and that his mother and father NEVER talked about this sort of thing in front of he and his brother, Little Don.
