Note: 1840 U. S. Census for Edwards Co., Illinois: John Hocking would be 31 years old and his wife Susannah would be 25 which would fit the ages for the oldest male and female. Three boys under five would be William Henry, John Wesley, and Nathan N. One son age 5-10 would be Thomas at age 7 years. All the rest of the children were born after the 1840 census.
Text: 1840 U. S. Census for Edwards Co., Illinois, has a John Hocking household with three free white males age under 5, one age 5-10, and one age 30-40. Free white females include only one age 20-30.

Text: p. 140: Captain Solomon Hunter's Company. Of Third Regiment Second Brigade of Illinois Mounted Volunteers, called into the service of the United States on the requisition of Gen. Atkinson, by the Governor's proclamation, dated May 15, 1832. Mustered out August 15, 1832, by order of Brigadier-Gen. Atkinson. Men from Edwards County included Thomas Jaggers and John Hocking.
This company was organized in Edwards County, Illinois, on the 5th day of May, 1832. Marched according to Governor's order, for Hennepin, June 1, 1832; was mustered into the service of the United States on the 19th of June, 1832. Each man of the company furnished six days' rations for himself and horse. The officers of said company drew one ration per day in kind, and the officers and men drew one half-bushel of corn, as forage, during the whole campaign.
